No hospital for us yet…

Friday, December 29th, 2006

The non-stress test went very well this week, and I’m right on for size. My blood pressure was up, and I gained a couple pounds, but everything else was fine enough. Next week is an ultrasound and BP check, and later in the week, another non-stress test.

Photos better late than never

From one of my two big trips out of the house:
Jim and Santa

And, the first school picture:
Jim's Preschool Photo

We got a couple pics of Jim’s Santa booty, but they’re not ready yet. I missed getting a photo of Unce Matt’s Christmas scarf, but imagine olive green and manly (husband approved).

I love Jim’s school

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I’ve been outregeously happy with Jim’s school since the beginning, and haven’t been shy about saying so. He loves going to school, and is very sad when it’s closed or he can’t go (like last Friday, when he had a doctor’s appointment).

When I started my “couch rest” and Dad started taking Jim to school, the teachers all volunteered to bring Jim home if we ever needed, or find another Mom to take him home.

Jim’s been sick all weekend. I really hoped on Saturday that it was going to be a short thing. He had a runny nose, but a normal temp getting up from his nap. It wasn’t to be, when he woke up at 4am on Sunday morning with a high fever and accompanying crankiness. He and Dad stayed home from Dad’s family Christmas party, and when I got home, Jim’s fever was even higher than it was in the morning. In the hours that followed, Jim had a cooldown bath, “steam medicine”, Tylenol followed by Advil, and he puked three times.

With all that, my hopes of getting Jim to the last day of school until January AND his Christmas party were dashed. With Dad going to bed early, I had no chance of taking the presents to his teachers either. But a half hour ago, his teacher called and asked if she could stop by with Jim’s Christmas stuff that he would have gotten at the party today. It was such a great pick-me-up for both of us. The highlight was the ornament that he made with his picture on it. It going to be great to start this collection of homemade ornaments. But there were snacks and little toys and a book. Oh, and a silly straw.

It made the day so much better for the both of us.

I’ve become a small-project addict

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Ever since making fingerless gloves for Jim’s teachers/aides, I’ve fallen in love with the quickie projects. Using leftovers from the gloves, I’ve made a baby hat and toddler hat. I’ve also made and felted a cute striped bag. Not one of the projects took more than one day.

Now I’ve got a hat for myself on the needles, and another secret project using my new favorite yarn, Knitpicks Swish Superwash. It’s softer and less expensive than Cascade 220 Superwash, for the same yardage, and I like the color selection. I especially like the color I got for this project.

No pictures, because I’ve haven’t had time yet, plus some of the quick projects are Christmas presents.

Finishing up

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

The theme of the week is finishing up. Last night, I finished Jim’s first handmade socks. Today was St. Nicholas celebration at school, and I thought it would be fun for him to have cute socks if he would be running around with no shoes (they took off their shoes to get treats in them).

Today, two knitted christmas items were finished up, so that actually leaves me with no deadline projects left. So I’m trying to figure out new projects.

As far as the nursery, we’ve filled it up with junk again. Dad re-arranged our room into the winter/baby arrangement, which means all the junk that was in there is back in the nursery. Plus he brought all the baby stuff down from the attic. I went through and found the first two size groups of cloths, and got them washed up and almost all put away.

Sweater Model

Hamming it up
Little ham

I finally finished sewing on the buttons Saturday… and convinced him to wear it to school today. Details on the sweater are in the knitting photo gallery. Even though it took nine months to get this finished, he should get a lot of wear out of it. The sleeves need to be rolled up, and there’s lots of room in the torso.
